Turning Point with David Jeremiah — September 30, 2026

September 30, 2026

Dr. David Jeremiah opens a Turning Point message by asking what it means to be “one in Christ.” He uses the image of Rome’s Pantheon to illustrate how the early church’s insistence on a single Lord set it apart from pagan worship and, ultimately, from persecution.

What Unity Looks Like in the Church

Jeremiah points out that Paul’s list of “seven essentials”—the body, the Spirit, the hope, the Lord, the faith, the baptism, and the God—shows where believers must agree. He stresses that these points are about shared truth, not about identical practices or appearances.

Stories That Bring the Concept to Life

  • Short‑term employee. A brief anecdote about a temporary worker who refused to help set up chairs illustrates how pride can fracture a community.
  • Sequoia roots. Jeremiah compares the church to a grove of sequoia trees whose intertwined roots give each tree strength, suggesting that unity is built on interlocking support.
  • Olympic crew. He references a book about the 1936 University of Washington crew team to show how diverse gifts can combine into a powerful whole.

Practical Ways to Build Unity

Jeremiah reminds listeners that unity is not automatic. He calls for humility, meekness, patience, and forbearance—qualities Paul lists as the means to “keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). He encourages believers to practice these virtues in everyday interactions, even when it feels uncomfortable.
