Turning Point with David Jeremiah — October 5, 2026

October 05, 2026

What Is the Soul?

Dr. Jeremiah begins by asking listeners to rethink the common image of a body with a soul. He explains that the soul is the essential part that animates the body, the “resident” that gives the body meaning. The soul is the part of us that cannot be reduced to physical processes, the inner self that remembers, loves, and seeks.

Why the Enemy Targets the Soul?

He points to the biblical warning that “what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?” (Luke 12:15). The soul is the battlefield of spiritual warfare because it is the link between a person and God. When the soul is compromised, the relationship with God is affected, and the enemy seeks to seize that connection.

How the Soul Connects to God

Jeremiah explains that the soul is the faculty through which we know and worship God. He cites Scripture such as Psalm 42:1, “As the deer pants for the water, so my soul pants for you, O God,” and Jesus’ words at the well, “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” These passages show that the soul is the channel of divine communion, not the body.

The Soul’s Eternal Journey

He reminds listeners that the soul does not die with the body. The soul continues forever, either in the presence of God or in separation. The permanence of the soul underscores the urgency of aligning it with God, because the choices made here echo into eternity.
