Turning Point with David Jeremiah — October 7, 2026

October 07, 2026

The King in the Wilderness

Dr. Jeremiah opens with the image of King David, forced to flee Jerusalem after Absalom’s rebellion, and how he found himself outside the kingdom he had built. In that moment of exile, David turned to the Psalms he had written, and the words of Psalm 42 and 43 became a lifeline for his soul.

Hope in the Midst of Despair

Jeremiah highlights a paradox that David wrestles with: hope is most alive when everything seems hopeless. He draws on Paul’s description of hope in Romans 8, and then shows how David’s cry, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” is not a confession of defeat but a question that opens the door to a deeper trust in God’s presence.

Remembering God’s Faithfulness

Another thread in the teaching is that hope for the future is built on the past. David repeatedly looks back to moments of worship and joy, using those memories to counter the present pain. Jeremiah encourages listeners to remember God’s past faithfulness, whether by recalling worship experiences or by keeping a journal, as a way to shift focus from uncertainty to assurance.

Choosing Where to Focus

Jeremiah points out that David’s question to his soul—“Why have you cast yourself down?”—shows a choice: dwell in despair or direct thoughts toward hope. The episode suggests that, like David, listeners can strengthen themselves by turning to Scripture and remembering God’s past faithfulness, rather than letting discouragement take root.
