Why God Promises a Way Out of Temptation

In a recent message, Dr. Jeremiah reminds listeners that God never tempts us to evil. He cites 2 Corinthians 1:10, where Paul says God will limit the intensity of any temptation to what we can bear and will provide a way out before the test even begins. The promise is that the escape route is already in place, so the struggle is not about being caught unprepared but about recognizing that God has prepared a path.

Preparing for the Battle

Before a temptation strikes, Dr. Jeremiah stresses two practical steps: first, acknowledge that temptation is possible—1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us that we will be tempted; second, seek God’s help in advance. He points to the Lord’s Prayer, “lead us not into temptation,” and to Matthew 26:41, “watch and pray,” as ways to alert the heart and invite divine assistance before the challenge arises.

Choosing How to Respond

When temptation appears, Dr. Jeremiah outlines three possible responses. He encourages believers to resist by wielding the “sword of the Spirit,” the Word of God, just as Jesus did in the wilderness. He also notes that sometimes the best move is to retreat—Joseph fled Potiphar’s wife, and Paul advises believers to flee sexual immorality. Finally, he calls for renewal of the inner life, comparing the shedding of dead leaves to the growth of new spiritual fruit, so that the old patterns fall away as new life takes root.
