Turning Point with David Jeremiah — October 16, 2026

What Is a Restored Soul?

Dr. Jeremiah opens by noting that the soul is the most enduring part of us, a concept he says will be “as old as God.” He points out that the word appears more than 450 times in Scripture, yet few sermons focus on it. The question he poses is how we recognize that our soul has been wounded and that it can be healed.

Satan’s Twofold Threat

Jeremiah explains that Satan uses two tactics against believers. First, he convinces people that they are immune to sin, creating a false sense of invincibility. Second, after a sin has occurred, he whispers that restoration is impossible, that the sin is too great for forgiveness. He challenges listeners to confront these lies and to remember the biblical promise that God restores souls.

Stories of Restoration

To illustrate the possibility of renewal, Jeremiah recounts the story of John Mark, who abandoned Paul on a missionary journey but was later restored and became the author of the Gospel of Mark. He also shares Ruth Graham’s experience of divorce and return, describing how a broken heart can be welcomed back by a loving father. These narratives raise the question: can a person who has failed or been rejected still find a place in God’s plan?

Keeping the Shepherd in Sight When Life Feels Dark

When fear, grief, or exhaustion weigh us down, Jeremiah urges listeners to turn to the shepherd’s guidance. He cites Isaiah 41 and Psalm 23, reminding that “the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” He asks whether we keep our eyes on the source of comfort or on the problems themselves, inviting reflection on how focusing on the shepherd can shift perspective from despair to hope.
